Mellors Group has welcomed the announcement from East Midlands Railway confirming more than 13,000 additional seats per week on services between Nottingham and Skegness this summer.

The news follows growing calls from local businesses, tourism operators and campaigners for improvements to the busy coastal route, with Mellors Group recently backing calls for urgent investment and increased capacity on the line.

The additional seats come ahead of what is expected to be one of the biggest summers yet across Fantasy Island and the wider Lincolnshire coast, with a packed programme of free entertainment, major events and family attractions planned throughout the season.

This summer at Fantasy Island visitors can look forward to:

  • Glastonsea Festival on 18th July
  • Country & Western Day on 4th July
  • Free Fireworks Every Wednesday Night throughout the summer holidays
  • Free entertainment daily across the resort
  • Over 35 rides and attractions
  • Europe’s largest market of its kind
  • Alongside a huge events programme, Fantasy Island Holidays has also expanded for 2026 with brand new holiday accommodation now available, including luxury lodges with private gardens and hot tubs.

James Mellors, Managing Director of Mellors Group, said:

“We’re delighted to see East Midlands Railway increasing capacity on the Nottingham to Skegness route ahead of the summer season.

“This is something we, alongside many others across the region, have been calling for as demand for travel to the Lincolnshire coast continues to grow year after year.

“Better rail connectivity is hugely important for tourism, local businesses and the wider visitor economy. We’re expecting a fantastic summer across Fantasy Island and Skegness, with major events, free entertainment and fireworks every week throughout the holidays, so this additional capacity is really positive news for visitors planning trips to the coast.

“With major investment continuing across the resort, including brand new holiday accommodation for 2026, we’re looking forward to welcoming visitors from across the region for what promises to be a huge summer season.”

East Midlands Railway has advised customers to book ahead where possible due to expected high demand during peak summer dates.
