Mellors Group has welcomed the Government’s decision to reduce VAT for the tourism and attractions sector, describing the move as a positive step for both businesses and families planning days out and short breaks across the UK.
The Nottingham-based leisure operator, which owns and operates Fantasy Island, Skegness Pier and Lightwater Valley, says the reduction will help businesses continue working hard to keep experiences affordable for visitors during a period of continued financial pressure on households.
However, the group says more support is still needed for tourism and hospitality businesses facing rising operational costs – particularly around energy.
James Mellors, Director of Mellors Group, said:
“We welcome the Government’s decision to reduce VAT for the tourism and attractions industry.
“At a time when families are continuing to carefully manage spending, any support that helps businesses keep prices affordable is hugely positive.
“As a business, we are always looking at ways to deliver value for customers while continuing to invest in attractions, entertainment and the overall guest experience.
“This reduction will help us continue that work and support our aim of keeping great days out as accessible and affordable as possible.
“However, businesses across the tourism and hospitality sector are still facing significant pressure behind the scenes, particularly from rising energy and operational costs.
“Further support in those areas would make a real difference and would help attractions, hospitality venues and tourism operators continue protecting jobs, investing in local economies and keeping prices competitive for visitors.”
Mellors Group says tourism businesses continue to play a major role in supporting local economies, particularly in coastal destinations where the visitor economy supports thousands of jobs and independent businesses.
The company believes targeted support on operating costs would not only benefit businesses directly, but also help ensure families can continue accessing affordable UK attractions, holidays and experiences in the years ahead.
