A ski lodge bar, ice bar, giant toboggan slide and Christmas market can only mean one thing – the return of Winter Wonderland to the heart of Nottingham city centre and this year Old Market Square will be home to the largest open-air ice rink in the East Midlands.
The hugely popular attraction from the Mellors Group, organised in partnership with Nottingham City Council, welcomes thousands of people to the city each year and for many, it has become the annual highlight of the festive period.
This year’s yuletide fun starts on Friday 15 November 2019 and runs through until Tuesday 31 December 2019. Over this period it will be open every day apart from Christmas Day, ensuring that everybody gets their fill of merriment.

Winter Wonderland is free to enter* and this year the Mellors Group are delivering all the Christmas trimmings, with exciting new attractions including a much larger ice rink which has increased in size from 750 square metres to 1,100 square metres and a special 5m x 16m area for children to enjoy the ice in safety. Also new for this year is an enchanting 200m ice path which skaters can follow from the main rink and around the fountain area of Old Market Square.
And with the introduction of the new flexi ticket, budding Torville & Deans will be able to enjoy at least an extra hour of skating during off peak times for the same price as the standard one hour ticket.
Wrap up warm and enjoy a truly chilling experience as Nottingham’s coolest bar will be back with an exciting new Alpine theme for 2019. Look out for the grizzly bears, as you are served a drink in an ice glass, and the other amazing ice sculptures that have been cleverly carved to create a wintery scene in the unique Ice Bar.
Christmas shoppers and visitors to the city will once again be able to enjoy hot mulled wine, beverages and food in the cosy surroundings of après ski bar, Sur la Piste or they can relax upstairs with a cocktail in the chic, glass lounge bar, Altitude, which provides panoramic views of the city. With table service and a private DJ, you can also take your Christmas party to Altitude as it is available for bookings.
Local bands and artists will be keeping the crowds entertained throughout the festive period too with a schedule of regular live acoustic sets, jazz and swing music.
The family attraction will also boast a variety of traditional fairground rides such as the popular carousel and a Christmas market which will welcome 20 new traders to Winter Wonderland, taking the total number of stalls to 70, thereby offering an even greater range of gifts and goodies.
The Helter Skelter bar will be back on Long Row and the thrilling toboggan slide will once again be running down King Street and into Slab Square. There will be plenty of traditional Christmas fayre and festive treats for everyone to enjoy too.
Edward Mellors, a director of the Mellors Group said: “Winter Wonderland will be even bigger and better this year, making it the largest Christmas attraction in the East Midlands. We are thrilled that there will be a larger ice rink including a special area for children and an even more spectacular ice bar as well as lots more stalls. It means that Nottingham’s Old Market Square will be THE place to visit this Christmas.”
