The Mellors Group, based in Nottingham, has been awarded a five year contract by the General Entertainment Authority in Saudi Arabia to organise and create the world’s largest touring entertainment event.
The event will see huge amusement parks moving from one city to another, starting from Riyadh and including various other towns with the aim of introducing leisure entertainment and fun to the people of Saudi Arabia.
The project will involve Mellors sourcing the largest touring rides in Europe which will include commissioning special mobile rollercoasters. The rides will start to be shipped from June, with the first park due to open in October 2019.
The contract represents a major logistical exercise for Mellors. It will involve moving the parks 800 – 900 miles from city to city and, at its peak, 700 trailers will be moved from one site to the next and 400 staff will be required for each site.
“We are thrilled to have been awarded this contract,” said James Mellors, a director of the Mellors Group. “We have been operating in Europe for over 40 years and have spent four years operating in the Middle East but this is the first time that we will be working in Saudi Arabia. Logistically it will be a challenge but we relish this and look forward to making it a reality. We are delighted to be introducing the people of Saudi Arabia not just to funfairs but to the biggest touring rides in the world.”
